Papillote Wilderness Retreat is a four-room ecolodge located in the rainforest mountains above Roseau, Dominica’s capital city. Our accommodations are simple -- some might say “rustic” -- yet comfortable.

 

The vast majority of our guests are adventurous, independent, flexible and self-sufficient folks who are as comfortable in a tent outdoors as they are in a room with a bed. They don’t mind that our rooms have traditional wood-slat windows with no screens. They don’t worry that our water pressure may vary a bit from day to day because it is piped into our facilities directly from natural hot and cold volcanic springs. Our hot pools are always available for a refreshing bath.

 

We do not have air conditioning (it is generally cool at night in the rainforest) but all rooms have one or more fans for the warmer nights. We do not have telephones or televisions in our rooms to preserve the peaceful environment our guests expect.

 

Our staff is on site Monday through Saturday but have the day off on Sundays. 

 

Are you a good fit for Papillote?

 

If you are put off by the idea of finding a bug or a small lizard in your room, staying in our rainforest lodge may not be for you.

 

If you would be upset by a temporary power interruption or varying water temperature in your room, you may not be a good fit.

 

We note these things because we want all of our guests to be happy and comfortable. 

 

At the same time, we are not always able to meet the expectations of travelers who expect the creature comforts of home while on holiday. If that is what you seek, we are happy to recommend accommodations more suited to your preferences and lifestyle.
